Scholarships 2019 - 2020

(This is scholarship list is not all inclusive.  There are many scholarships that can be found on the internet and you are encouraged to take time and find those scholarships that pertain to you.  Websites to find scholarships:  Cappex, Fastweb, Collegeboard, Niche, etc. )

Important:  Be sure to check the scholarship page of the college/university you plan to attend.  

APRIL

  • Deadline:  April 1, 2020

Auerila Swafford Scholarship (D.A.R. local scholarship)

This scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior of Ray County High School.  The student must be in the top 10% of the graduating class and may be used for any accredited college, university or trade school. See Mrs. Schott for the application.

Sweeney Family Trade Scholarship

This scholarship was formed in honor of Dan Sweeney and his fourteen siblings.  This scholarship will provide financial assistance ($1,000) to an individual who wishes to pursue a career in a trade, lives in Carroll County or an adjacent county, enrolling in an accredited trade school.  Selection based on citizenship, career goals, and if necessary financial need.  Application and more information available in the counselor's office.

Ray County Farm Bureau (Renewable)

The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage talented young people to pursue a challenging career.  This $300 scholarship can be used for tuition or room and board and can be for any college or trade school of the senior’s choice.  Students must be a resident of Ray County, parents must be a member of Ray County Farm Bureau for at least 3 years must rank in upper 30 percent of graduating class, must be seeking a first degree or certificate.  Applications and more information are located in the counselor's office.

Aircraft Electronics Association Educational Foundation

Multiple scholarships are available on the website. Requirements include: minimum GPA of 2.5, transcript, major/career interest in aviation or aviation repair/electronics, complete an essay, description of activities. National High School Essay Contest (Grades 9-12)

The 2020 National High School Essay Contest has begun! This is the 20th year of this prestigious contest, which encourages high school students to think about important international issues and learn about one of America's best kept secrets: The United States Foreign Service. This year, the spotlight about the growing number of refugees and internally displaced persons around the world. he contest challenges students to imagine themselves as a member of the Foreign Service posted to one of four countries that are directly affected by this crisis, and to propose solutions. Click here for more details on the topic.  

 

AFSA welcomes the continuing support of our fantastic contest partners: The United States Institute of Peace, Semester at Sea, and the National Student Leadership Conference. They make possible the fantastic prizes for our winner and runner-up. The winner receives $2,500, a trip to Washington, D.C. to meet the Secretary of State, and full tuition for a Semester at Sea educational voyage. The runner-up receives $1,250 and full tuition for the NSLC's International Diplomacy summer program.  Eligibility for AFSA’s 2020 National High School Essay Contest is open to students in grades nine through twelve in any of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories, or if they are U.S. citizens attending high school overseas. Students may be attending a public, private, or parochial school. Entries from home-schooled students are also accepted. Previous first-place winners and immediate relatives of directors or staff of the AFSA, the U.S. Institute of Peace, National Student Leadership Conference and Semester at Sea are not eligible to participate. Lion's Club Scholarship

Applicants must exhibit high moral standards and possess a desire to serve.  Financial need and personal or parental association with the Lion's Club will be considered, but will not be required.  Email kschott@orrick.k12.mo.us for an application.

Country Cruisers Scholarship

Must be attending college, community college or trade school and have a "B" average and complete 12 hours the fist members and be returning to college to complete a 2nd semester.

Todd Gaines Memorial Scholarship

Todd Gaines was a 1987 graduate of OHS.  He spent 12-years battling Colo-Rectal cancer and he was known for his faith in God, his abilities and the medical staff.  He always shared his positive attitude and beliefs with every person from the janitor to the doctors who cared for him.  The focus of this scholarship is for those students who have elected to pursue a field in the medical field and/or for those who have served Orrick and Orrick High school.  For an application, email kschott@orrick.k12.mo.us

Richmond Rotary Club Scholarship

The Richmond Rotary Club is now accepting applications for its scholarship.  This application requires 2 letters of recommendation.  Applications are available in the counselor's office.

Legacy Scholarship 

To qualify and apply, you must be a current high school senior and/or accepted at or attending an institution of higher education. You must also answer YES to the following 2 statements: a legal parent died while serving on active duty on or after 9/11/01 or a legal parent is a Post-9/11 veteran of the U.S. military who has been given a disability rating of 50% of higher by the Veterans Administration. Michael T. Waters Scholarship

This annual scholarship will be a one-time gift to graduating seniors desiring to attend an accredited college or university.  /the student must have participated in band or chorus at least one year, preferably 2 years.  Please email Mrs. Schott at kschott@orrick.k12.mo.us for an online application.

Women’s Retail Network

WRN is offering scholarships up to $5,000 for females pursuing programs in automotive retail areas. Enrollment in an accredited automotive program or institution providing automotive retail and/or service management degrees or certificates is a requirement. Geneva Stokes Teacher Scholarship

Two scholarships will be awarded annually.  One Scholarship shall be awarded to a person majoring in elementary education while the second scholarship shall be open to anyone majoring in the teacher education field.  Email Mrs. Schott at kschott@orrick.k12.mo.us for an application.

American Legion Charles L. Bacon Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be unmarried, under the age of 21, be a resident of Missouri and must be a full-time student in an accredited college or university. American Legion Erman W. Taylor Memorial Scholarship 

Applicants must be a descendant of a veteran who served 90 or more days of active duty in the armed forces and having an honorable discharge. Applicant must be a Missouri resident and use the award as a full-time student at an accredited college or university. American Legion Joseph J. Frank Scholarship

The applicant must be under the age of 21 and an unmarried resident of Missouri. Applicant must be a descendant of a veteran with at least 90 days of active service in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard, who received an Honorable Discharge for such service who was a descendant member of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of The American Legion. The applicant must have attended a full session of The American Legion Boys State or The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program. The applicant must be a resident of Missouri and under the age of 21. A photocopy of the veteran's discharge or separation notice must accompany the scholarship application. Applicant must be attending an accredited college/university as a full-time student. American Legion MD Jack Murphy Memorial Nurses Scholarship

One applicant planning a career as a Registered Nurse. The scholarship must be used in the first fall semester upon completion of high school.  Must be the descendant* of a veteran having served 90 days on active duty in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard of the United States, and having an honorable discharge. A copy of the veteran's discharge or separation notice must be submitted with the application. The copy must show the date the veteran entered service and the date the veteran left service. Be a resident of the state of Missouri. Shall be an unmarried dependent under the age of 21. Must be attending an accredited college/university as a full-time student. Consideration for the scholarship will be determined annually for high school graduates in NEED of financial aid to attend a college/university.  The applicant must graduate in the top 40% of his / her class. Missouri Legion Shane Dean Voyles Memorial Scholarship

Each High School in the state of Missouri may submit only one application for this award. Applicant must be selected by the faculty of the High School he/she is attending based on the individual's financial need, participation in athletics, participation in school activities/clubs, volunteer work, exceptional leadership qualities, high moral standards, and extreme patriotism. The recipient must be a full-time student in an accredited college or university in the state of Missouri. The applicant must be a resident of the state of Missouri.
